Book Blogger Hop 1/18-1/24

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. There is a weekly prompt featuring a book-related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books and fellow bloggers. All are welcome to comment, follow, and/or re-post.

The question for this week (1/18-1/24): Is there anything that drives you bonkers while reading? Something that makes you want to tell the author a thing or two?

Oh yeah, there are a couple! First, repetitive text. For example, authors who love phrases like “he looked up at me through his lashes.” Lashes, lashes, lashes. AHHH, STOP WITH THE LASHES, WE GET IT. Or whatever the text may be, but I have seen lashes a lot. And other slang. Dislike. Also: cliffhangers. At chapters and at end of books. Maybe that makes me a party pooper but I hate having to wait for the next book! How dare you break my heart and leave me hanging!! Its just not fair!!!

So what say you, fellow book lovers? What drives you crazy when reading? Spill the tea!!

The question for this week (1/11-1/17) is: What is your first book of the year?

Well, so far I have finished The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck and The Bear and the Nightingale. That’s two 3-star books for me. However, I have a couple 5-star books about to be added to my roster. I am currently reading (and about to finish) Slayer by Kiersten White and graphic novel Nimona by Noelle Stevenson. I am very much enjoying both of these books! So pretty much…halfway through January and 4 books down. Not too bad!

How about you? What is your first book/books for the year?

Q: If you celebrate Christmas, do you feel the need to stop reading anything BUT Christmas-themed romances once the season starts?

A: Nope. I love Christmas, and I try to read as many Christmas-themed books as possible but I don’t ONLY read Christmas books. I don’t “restrict” myself. That all being said, I probably do read about 80-90% Christmas or winter books. Its just what I’m in the mood for. I still read different genres within the Christmas theme….not all romance. Mostly mystery or some contemporary romance or classics/historical fiction–there is just so much out there! So far, I have finished reading Kiss Me in New York and I just started reading Christmas at Hope Cottage. I’ll maybe get through one or two more holiday reads before the end of the month?? We’ll see!

I’m always up for recommendations if you have any for me! Please feel free to tell me if you’ve read any good holiday/wintery books lately! 😀

Currently watching: Jim Carey’s ‘A Christmas Carol’

Q: What is your favorite Christmas-themed read?

A: I think my favorite Christmas-themed read is either A Christmas Carol or Skipping Christmas. A lot of people don’t realize it, but Skipping Christmas (written by John Grisham) is the book that the movie “Christmas with the Kranks” with Tim Allen and Diane Keaton is based off of. I thought the book was very well-written and I love the movie too!

I’m always on the lookout for more good holiday reads. I especially like reading cozy Christmas mysteries, paranormal, contemporary romance, etc. so if you’ve got any good recommendations, please leave them for me! Thanks!

This Week’s Question:

If you had an author-only Thanksgiving party, who would you invite?

So if I had an author-only Thanksgiving party, I would invite Neal Schusterman, whom I have met twice now and I know him to be super intelligent, very funny, and he has so many stories to tell. He is just an all around amazing guy. I would also invite Diana Gabaldon because I love her books and she also is very intelligent (I think I’m seeing a pattern here. Also, Suzanne Collins, Maggie Stiefvater, and Adam Silvera. I think Stephen King would freak me out too much.

What about you? The whole purpose of the blog hop is to gain interaction with followers (and lurkers *wink wink*) and to learn about new books or authors. Share some food for thought with me if you’d like. 🙂

This week’s question: When reading a book, do you use a bookmark to mark your place in a book, or do you just fold over the top corner of the page?

23231290_10100115096803889_5978470626375544124_nI love my bookmarks! I may or may not have an addiction. I have magnetic bookmarks as well as straight bookmarks and I love choosing a different bookmark for every book I read. Sometimes I pick depending on the book or the season or my mood. They’re just so fun! I used to be a page corner-er so I’m not 100% morally opposed if I must but usually I’ll find something to use as a bookmark. Post-it note….receipt….some other scrap paper….whatever is handy, you get the idea.

So how about you – what do you use? What is your method of saving the page? Bookmark? Dog-eared page (that’s what my mom always called it)?

Book Blogger Hop: Halloween Edition!

This weeks question: Candy corn, a chocolate bar, or popcorn. Which of these are your favorite to eat while reading?

My answer: Popcorn!! I love salty, buttery popcorn! Although usually I pair it with something sweet like M&Ms or Raisinets. THAT is my perfect snack!

So follow me and leave your links and I’ll come check your pages out as well! Can’t wait!
