Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

All right, here it is. My rendition of the Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag! I know we’re past “mid-year” by now, but I have put a lot of (probably too much) thought into this. Better late than never, eh?

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2019.
Hands down, no questions asked, best book I have read so far was Red, White, and Royal Blue. I haven’t been quiet about this one since I read it and I probably won’t shut up about it for a while!
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019.
Outside of graphic novels which I have been reading more or less in sequence together, I have only read two books in series and one was a re-read! Yikes! Maybe that is something I will look into more for the rest of the year. That being said, I really did enjoy the ‘sequel’ I did read…it was the final book in a 4-book series, and that would be The Dire King from Jackaby by William Ritter. I loved this series, and if you haven’t read any of these books, I certainly recommend.
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.
Definitely A Sorcery of Thorns! I am pretty sure I have this one coming in a sub box so I am trying to wait patiently but it is really difficult because everyone is raving about this one!
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.
After all the good things that have come out so far this year, its amazing to believe we’re still getting epic releases throughout the rest of the year! What I am most looking forward to is between Children of Virtue and Vengeance and Ninth House.
5. Biggest disappointment.
Unpopular opinion but…The Bear and the Nightingale. That’s what really makes a  disappointment, isn’t it? I had high hopes for this book and it let me down because so many people love this story! I can see why but it wasn’t for me. Maybe it was because I listened to the audiobook? Someday I’ll try the hard copy, or maybe I’ll try book 2 that way…we’ll see.
6. Biggest surprise.
I already mentioned Red, White, & Royal Blue, so for my final answer here I am going to say Slayer for this one. I am not really a Buffy fan, and I thought this book was going to be about Buffy herself but pretty much everything I had expected about this book was wrong and I gave this book 5 stars!
7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)
For this question I am going to choose Emily A Duncan, who wrote Wicked Saints.loved this book and thought it was so well written! The fantasy structure was so well thought out, I absolutely cannot wait to read book 2!
8. Newest fictional crush.
The boys in Wicked Saints were my latest heart thieves. I didn’t know who to like, who to sympathize with, who to distrust…as I mentioned, Emily wrote them so well, I just fell for them both. I can’t wait for the whole series to come out so I can have more of them!
9. Newest favourite character.
Klaus, aka Number 4, from The Umbrella Academy! I watched the show and read the comic books and of course, I ended up being a sucker for Klaus’ morbid temperament. Leave it to me to want the guy with contacts on the other side.
10. Book that made you cry.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Not much contest there. If you haven’t read this book yet, what are you waiting for? Get to it. It was so good. 5 stars. Pick it up.
11. Book that made you happy.
Again, Red, White & Royal Blue made me laugh out loud countless times! I loved so many things about that book and now I am seeing merch rolling out–t-shirts, buttons, “royal” garb…I want it! It all just makes me so happy!
12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
I joined a buy/sell/trade group this year so I really have been adding a LOT of books to my shelves over the past several months! Plus I am a sucker for covers so its so hard to choose. I think one of the most beautiful books I’ve gotten so far this year is Onyx & Ivory (I have always been a sucker for this cover). Also, how can you beat the cover of King of Scars? I mean, come on.
13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
Speaking of King of Scars, I really need to read the Six of Crows of duology (which I always say but I really, really mean it!!!) in order to earn my way to KoS! I really need to do it before the show starts on Netflix and before more books come out.
14. Favourite Book Community Member
This is probably the real reason it took me a while to finish this…looking up my buds. So the people I always look to for blog formatting, new releases, bookish opinions, really just anything and everything–whether they know it or not–are Destiny @howling libraries, Klo @Reader Voracious, and Austine @Novel Knight.

And that is that. Woo! So if you have not yet done this tag, I recommend taking a few minutes and reflecting on what you have read this year so far. Consider yourself…TAGGED!!
