Tag Tuesday: The Book Addiction Tag

Woooooooo! Another Tuesday almost in the books! I’m trying so hard to keep up with my reading (Goodreads says I’m 43 books behind) and get back on track with blogging/social media a bit more regularly. Try, try, try! So here we go! This is the Book Addiction Tag, which was created by Always Trust in Books (or so we think)

The Book Addiction Tag

What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?

24 hours maybe? I honestly start to feel empty and a sense of laziness or even loneliness and neglect if I don’t “check in” with what I’m reading.

bookbagHow many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?

I typically read 2-3 books at a time and I definitely have at least one of them, if not two or more on my person at all times. I never know what format (audio, ebook, hard copy) will be most ideal to read at any given time! Usually, though, I can just pull out my phone and just read a bit on that, but if I know there is a long car ride or a waiting room or anything like that I can plan for that.

Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?

For the most part, I am a hoarder. If I really know I’m not going to read something and I didn’t buy it myself, that’s when I am most likely to pass it on.

How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?

Lately, my standard visits are about an hour of browsing and leaving. I used to be able to spend an entire day just walking in and sitting around reading. I would just pick out a stack of books and read the first couple chapters to get a feel for new authors

How much time per day do you actually spend reading?

I probably spend anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours reading per day. Sometimes maybe a bit more but that’s probably where my average is.

clay-banks-258326-unsplashWhere does the task ‘picking up a book’ appear on your daily to-do list?

As much as possible! I try to listen to audiobooks at work but I get interrupted frequently so that stinky. However, once I get home, I usually have some flexibility to I get some reading time after work and before sleep to read!

How many books do you reckon you own in total (including e-books)?

I reckon I have +3 bookcases full! No idea how many that is. I don’t even have the time (or patience) to count. Maybe when I move in a couple months I can give a rough count.

Approximately how often do you bring up books in conversation?

Relatively often. Especially The Hunger Games and Harry Potter and Outlander. Or books that I am currently reading or have recently read. If I see people reading in my comfort zones (like home or work etc.) I might ask them what they are reading and go about it that way but if I know people aren’t readers, I don’t reference it too much.

What is the biggest book (page count) you have finished reading?

I think one of the Outlander books or Cassandra Clare books is the longest books I have read.

Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds i.e searching bookshops, online digging etc?

Umm….I did get my hands on a 1st edition Jay Kristoff Nevernight for a steal. Let’s see….a book that I would love to have though, is just to get my first edition Harry Potter(s) signed by J.K. Rowling. If that happened, my life would be complete.

thought-catalog-551737-unsplashA book you struggled to finish but refused to DNF?

Yes, and whatever it was I blocked it out of my mind and learned my lesson.

What are 3 of your main book goals for 2018?

Read plenty more classic novels. Read more psychology books. Read more graphic novels too. Easy goals to achieve I hope!

Have you ever had the privilege of converting someone into a reader (maybe via inspiration or incessant nagging)?

There have been people in the past few years who have taken to reading around me more often. A few colleagues, my wife and children. They were either inspired by myself or have got sick of me picking up a book and wanted to see what all the fuss was about 😀

Describe what books mean to you in five words.

Knowledge. Experience. Challenging. Enthralling. Fulfilling.

And that’s the tag! This one is a little long, but the questions aren’t too difficult. So if you’re looking for a good tag to do, I hereby tag YOU!!!
